When an employee fails to follow a store's procedure, policy, or set of standards, management needs to address the issue so that it can be corrected and prevented from happening again. It is necessary to document all warnings in the employee's file. Use the Retail Employee Warning Notice Form to document any written warnings an employee receives. Make sure you note in the employee's personnel file the date of the verbal reprimand. Written warning

If you find that the employee has not corrected the problem, and you conclude that they are no longer a good fit for your store, then you should look to terminate them from your business. NOTE: it is very important to document every employee's file with the date, the nature of the reprimand, and whether the reprimand is verbal or written. Keeping accurate records will greatly assist you in making your case if the employee decides to seek unemployment compensation at some time in the future if they are ever terminated.
