Beware of Running Constant Promotions
There's no doubt that customers are looking for bargains these days.
In order to drive sales and sustain or grow your business in these
tough economic times, it's tempting to run storewide sales promotions
every week. You should think twice before running constant storewide promotions.
When you do this, you paint yourself into a budget corner when the
economy improves. Your customers will come to expect the lower price
and will be desensitized to your promotions. Instead of running storewide promotions every week, limit how often
you do this to once or twice a month. In order to give bargain customers the discounts they are looking for,
use a discount wall or display to move your slow selling inventory. You can't run a profitable business on low margins forever. You need
to be able to sell higher margin inventory when conditions allow.
